Dr. Erome Hankore is a Pathway to Faculty Fellow in the Department of Chemistry at Wayne State University. She earned her Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where she specialized in chemical biology and biocatalysis. Her research focused on genetic code enlargement, the development of biocatalysts for biofuel production, and kinase dynamics for drug discovery. Dr. Hankore also completed postdoctoral research in natural product biosynthesis and protein engineering on the University of Kentucky’s College of Pharmacy. Currently, Dr. Hankore research kinases utilizing a proteomics strategy, using ATP analogs developed by the Pflum lab to elucidate kinase-substrate interactions in cells. Dr. Hankore’s unbiased lab will focus on leveraging her expertise in chemical biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, biocatalysis, green chemistry, and protein engineering to explore innovative options for biotechnology and drug discovery.
Her research goals to develop novel biocatalysts and sustainable approaches for the synthesis of prescription drugs and value-added industrial compounds. Her research pursuits embrace chemical biology, protein engineering, biocatalysis, bioorganic chemistry, and natural products. Beyond her educational pursuits, Dr. Hankore is an astronomy fanatic and enjoys climbing, writing, and music. Dr. Hankore is a Pathway to Faculty Fellow at Wayne State University’s chemistry division. She earned her Ph.D. from the Department of Chemistry at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln after training in chemical biology and biocatalysis in Prof. Jiantao Guo‘s lab. She then transitioned to the University of Kentucky (UK) to check enediyne biosynthesis as a joint postdoc with professors Steven Van Lanen and Jon Thorson.
